Woofs and Wellies!

Posted Monday, 06 February 2012, 10.16am

On 18th December, a sponsored dog walk was held at Sizergh Castle to raise funds for St John's Hospice.  As our sponsored charity for the year, several members of our staff took part.

Luckily, it was a beautiful day - crisp, clear and sunny with stunning views of the fells. The walk started at Sizergh Castle and took a circular route through the fields to Helsington Church and back - probably about 5km in all.

There were around 40 dogs there - with their attendant owners, families and friends, so it was a great turn out and our own HW dogs raised £120 for the charity.

After the walk there was a mini "Crufts" with various categories - HW's Suzanne Hutton's greyhound Meg won "Prettiest Lady" and was likened to the Kate Moss of the dog world,  and HW's Tracy King's husky Willow won "Dog the judges would most like to take home" - and also second prize in the category "waggiest tail"! The lucky  winners were awarded goody bags with dog treats and a mug. There were lots of stylish pooches - one sausage dog wearing a gilet was a highlight!

All in all, a great day out and hopefully a decent amount of money raised for this worthwhile local charity.
