By Gail Escolme, 03 October 2011 – 0 comment

George Osbourne has today announced that fees are to be introduced for employment tribunal claims , likely to be as follows:-

  • £250 upon lodging the claim
  • a further £1000 when the hearing is listed
  • higher fees for claims over £30000
  • fees to be refunded to claimaint if successful but forfeited if not
  • no fee payable by those who have no money
It should be noted that the fees have not yet been confirmed and may vary from those set out above.

There is little doubt that these fees are higher than anticipated, however it is likely that those on income support will not have to pay a fee.

Further the qualifying period to claim unfair dismissal is to be increased from 1 year to 2 years form 6th April 2012 with the intention of reducing the number of employment tribunal claims.
