Name calling at work can be expensive for the Employer!

By Gail Escolme, 22 October 2010 – 0 comment

When an employee is calling a colleague Ironside and cripple because he is in a wheelchair we can be sure that there is a long way to go to stamp out discrimination.  In this case a  claimant was awarded £6000 at tribunal after they ruled that his dignity had been violated by his boss’s attitude.  Employers take heed – the days of colleagues calling each other derogatory names, even if it is allegedly in jest, are over and if you don’t crack down on staff who do so you’d better get your cheque books out!
