Russell Armer Charity Quiz Night Winners!

Hayton Winkley's team were the winners of the Russell Armer Homes Charity Quiz Night shield (team, above from left: Suzie Fisher, John Oldroyd, Jean Cowling, Stephen Read). Now in its eighth successful year, the Russell Armer Homes annual Charity Quiz Night saw teams from the local business community vying for the coveted shield. With more teams than ever - twenty-five this year - the now famous quiz had to relocate from its usual venue, the Heron pub on Heron Hill, to Kendal Rugby Club to accomodate the growth in entrants.

Quizmaster Martyn Nicholson ( Russell Armer Homes’s Managing Director) fired the questions as usual and a hearty hotpot supper and charity raffle was enjoyed by all.

An entry fee for the quiz, along with the sale of raffle tickets helped to raise a grand total of £600 on the night. All of which goes to Russell Armer Homes’ two chosen charities: The Great North Air Ambulance Service and MacMillan Cancer Relief.

“Our Charity Quiz Night is now firmly established as a major event on the local charity scene and so many people look forward to it,” commented Martyn Nicholson. “I’d just like to thank all those companies who entered a team, made a donation, contributed a raffle prize and helped us to raise such a great sum of money for these two worthy causes.”

Our Hayton Winkley team achieved a grand total of 47 out of a possible 60 points by correctly identifying the flag of Hungary, the colour of Homer Simpson’s car and the country of origin of the Lambada, among other questions.

Hayton Winkley Casino Night

Hayton Winkley held another very successful "Casino Night" at Castle Green Hotel, Kendal on Thursday 15th May and guests and hosts alike had a very enjoyable evening. The sun was shining and the terrace off the Kendal room was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of fizz!

The gaming tables and croupiers were provided by Odds On Fun Ltd and although the gaming did not involve real cash, some serious gambling took place! At the end of the evening, the winner was the person who'd managed to accumulate the most "chips" and first prize was won by Mary Hastie of Tenon Ltd, with Mike Winkley (ex-Hayton Winkley) coming second. A very interesting "bowl food" buffet was served and a good time was had by all!

Best of Lakeland

Hospitality Show

The Best of Lakeland Hospitality and Attractions Show 2008 was held at the Hydro, Windermere on 4th and 5th March. The show was very well supported and offered a wide variation of attractions from cooking demonstrations to all kinds of businesses supporting the hospitality industry.

As in previous years, Hayton Winkley were proud to be one of the sponsors of this important local event. We had a stand at the show and were delighted to talk with many existing clients and to meet a number of new contacts.

Leonard Hayton, one of the founders of Hayton Winkley Solicitors, was honoured at the recent, inaugural, Cumbria Business Awards 2007.

The 2007 Cumbria Business awards were hosted by CFM’s Robbie Dee on Thursday 29th November. The exclusive black tie event was held at the Hundith Hill Hotel in Cockermouth and was sponsored by Washington Group International.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to celebrate their success and the organisers produced a night to remember. Next years event promises to be bigger and better. Jodie Law from Cumbria Media commented “The quality of the entries ensured the judging process was not easy. Once the final decisions had been made we went all out to deliver a top quality event that nobody would forget”.

Len was proposed for the award, which was in recognition of a local business person, who not only excels within their business field but also works to give something back to their local community, by his firm Hayton Winkley. He was supported in the application by clients and friends who were keen to show their appreciation for Len's contribution over the years. He received glowing testimonials from Westmorland County Agricultural Show, with whom he has a close connection, plus from well-known local business people such as John Geldard from Plumgarths, Reg Gifford from The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere, Nigel Wilkinson from Windermere Lake Cruises and well-known local photographer Annabel Williams. None of them could praise him highly enough for his professionalism and care for his clients and fully supported the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution he has made to the area.

Everyone had a very enjoyable evening, and congratulations go to Len for what is a very well-deserved award!

Tenons Wine Tasting Evening

John Oldroyd, Gail Escolme, Peter Briggs, Naomi Fell. In front, Mary Hastie from Tenons

Tenons Accountants held another of their wine tasting evenings at the Brewery in Kendal - hosted by Frank Stainton and attended by local professionals and clients of Tenons. Hayton Winkley tested their lack of wine tasting skills, put up a good show with Peter Briggs being in the winning team (without dropping his glass this year), and Naomi Fell in the team who came third. John Oldroyd and Gail Escolme did less well - they're not admitting it, but we believe them to be in teams which either came last or very nearly last! A very enjoyable evening all round!
